Western Sahara: Human rights defenders call for international investigation into "serious" human rights abuses
LONDON (United Kingdom)- The Collective of the Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) called "to hold an international inquest on the serious human rights abuses committed by the Moroccan State in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and to bring the perpetrators to justice." The human rights activists Aminatou Haidar, Vice President of the London-based CODESA, asserted that the Collective "calls on international human rights organizations and associations" to put pressure on Morocco to lead it to "respect human rights in Western Sahara and abide by international legality to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination."

The UN calls upon Morocco and Polisario Front to continue negotiations to reach Sahrawis’ self-determination
NEW YORK (The United Nations)- The United Nations Security Council called on Wednesday upon Morocco and the Polisario Front to continue the negotiations "without preconditions and in good faith" to reach a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution which allows the self-determination of Western Sahara’s people." The negotiations conducted under the auspices of the UN Secretary General, indicated a new Resolution 1783 voted by the UN Security Council must take into account the efforts made since 2006 and the developments last months consistent with the measures in accordance with the UN Charter’s goals and principles.

UK reiterates its support for Sahrawi people's right to self-determination
LONDON (United Kingdom)- The United Kingdom has expressed its support for the efforts of the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy Peter Van Walsum to achieve a solution, which will provide for the self determination of the people of Western Sahara. This position was expressed through Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office in charge of European Affairs Jim Murphy, who was answering to a labour deputy John Gorgan on the necessity for the British government to precise in a public communiqué the UK position toward the Sahrawi question.

The Saharawi Human Rights activist and ex-political prisoner, Aminatou Haidar arrived Thursday to London, to take part to SANDBLAST Cultural Festival, which will be held in the first week of this November, with the participation of an important Saharawi delegation from the Saharawi refugee camps.

UN: Western Sahara issue on decolonization committee's agenda
Washington- Decolonization in Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco since 1975, is again on the agenda of the Special Political and Decolonization committee (Fourth Committee), to open proceedings on Monday at the United Nations headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly, an official source from the UN announced on Thursday. The committee, which released its work programme for the next six weeks sessions on Thursday in New York, held on the same day its first meeting devoted to the work schedule of General Assembly's current annual meting, under the chairmanship of the Permanent Representative of Sudan, Ambassador Abdalmahmood Abdelhaleem Mohamed.
